Hone your skills in fiction for short stories, novels and contests. Whether you want to figure out what you should write, or how you should write it, this course will benefit you.
Fabulous Fiction covers 35+ genres and subgenres and how to create memorable stories that your readers will love.
This course starts off with commercial and literary fiction and expands into the different types of genres, subgenres and the people who write them. You’ll learn how to structure your story, including plot and outline, introduction, action, climax, falling action and outcome. After that we take you through how to create great characters and subcharacters and when not to name them. Subplots are also covered. And that’s just the first day!
There are take home assignments where you take what you’ve learned and incorporate it into your writing.
Other learnings will be how to create obstacles and keep your readers attention. Then there’s the all imortant part about knowing your readers. Who are you writing for?
You’ll learn the 10 key traits of best selling fiction and delve deeper into character development. I could go on, but that would take the fun out of discovering what else you’ll learn.
On the last day you should have a rough draft of a short story that the group will critique. This is followed by an up-to-date guide on how to spot a good contest and how and where to enter them.
