Punctuation should be simple, right? As Canadians, we tend to mix and match what rules we adhere to. Some of our rules follow the UK, others follow the USA.

Learn how and when to use proper punctuation, including why double quotation marks should only be used for dialogue and around shorter pieces of work, like short stories in an anthology or songs on an album.

Course Outline

You get entertained and educated by two instructors for this course. Darcy Nybo starts you off and then hands the 21 Rules of Commas over to Marika Loschiavo, a professional editor and English teacher. After that, it’s a punctuation fest with Darcy.

We’ll cover the Oxford comma, quotation marks, ellipses, and even interrobangs, (yes, there is such a thing) and much more.

This class is highly participatory and engaging. You may find yourself enjoying it more than you thought you would.

You can take this course as part of a The Writers’ Toolbox Series, which also includes: Written Voice, Writing for an Online Audience, Grammar Refresher, Editing 101 and Brevity. Taking it as a series saves you $51!
